February 12 and 13th: California: Driving North~ Beauty of the Red Woods

February 12:  Leaving San Francisco

We had an amazing time visiting Ken and George on Clipper Street.  

Thank you, thank you both for all the time you spent with us~
for taking us to delicious restaurants~
for the wonderful tour all over SF~ 
for the great day in Napa~
for that fabulous dinner you made~
and 
for being such great hosts!

As we headed out of San Francisco, we again passed the Castro district and the beautiful 
Victorian homes and row houses and I just snapped away.  
So many lovely places and we can't wait to return.

The 105 year old Hotel La Rose in Historic Santa Rosa.

North of Santa Rosa, we passed this very sweet winery as we headed west from route 101,  then west on 128, to Route 1, which then connected us again to Route 101 at Leggett where our car drove through a Red Wood.

Lots of Americana and more wineries were seen along this route as we headed west and north.

I just love old rustic homes and barns and their vistas.

We saw lots of great fences in Kentucky, 

but nothing like this beauty above.

Eclectic Navarro General Store where I bought some really nice wine and where we
got our first education on different Red Wood Trees.

 John finally got to see Red Wood Trees.  It was a gorgeous drive on Route 128

Made it to Eureka!  

February 13th, we backtracked to drive to the Humboldt Redwoods State Park. 

You might say we are 'Hooked on Red Woods!'

This photo really shows the height of these trees.

We really enjoyed walking through this state park's forest. It was definitely worth driving back to visit it.   It is so beautiful ~ from the tall green Red Woods, to the fallen trunks, the nobs on the side of the trunks, the lovely fragrance, and the odd tree that was burned and still standing with no others burned around it.
