2015 July 10th Georgia O'Keeffe's home and Ghost

"The Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio"
is a site significant for its architecture and its association with artist Georgia O'Keeffe, who purchased the Abiquiú, New Mexico property from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Santa Fe in 1945, after attempting to buy it for some ten years. The house in Abiquiú became her primary residence until 1984, when she moved to Santa Fe two years prior to her death at age 98....."

"It took Georgia O’Keeffe almost half a century to identify which among the many ‘landscapes’ she tried on fit her the best. When she was living and painting at nearby Ghost Ranch, she kept returning to Abiquiu, a rugged area settled in prehistoric times that sits on a plateau overlooking New Mexico’s Chama River Valley. O’Keeffe was drawn to a dilapidated uninhabitable Spanish colonial structure that eventually became her home and studio. It was the ranch’s garden and surrounding landscape, on the property and beyond, that pleased her enormously. After 15 years of negotiation for the purchase of the Abiquiu house, she bought it in 1945 for $10 from the archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Santa Fe, with the understanding that it be restored in the same adobe design and in the original footprint.  This photo of us was taken right outside the side entrance ~
cameras are not allowed inside.  When we went through the gate, we came upon her gardens.  All kinds a gardens: Vegetable, herbs and flowers!  The Georgia O'keeffe Museum still take are of the home just as it was.

Below are a 5 stock photos from the websites noted above.  The home was just as it was left the day Ms., O'keeffe died.   What a beautiful place!

The photo above-right was her bedroom.
Who wouldn't love windows like that looking out onto the mountains!

"....Georgia O'Keeffe, intrigued by Arthur Pack's statement that the Piedra Lumbre was "the best place in the world",[3] checked out the ranch. She fell in love with the geography, and soon split her time between living in New York and New Mexico. She enjoyed having alone time, and was often very demanding of the Packs. Cerro Pedernal was a key geographical feature that could be often found in her paintings..  ...
Ghost Ranch is part of Piedra Lumbre (Spanish, "Shining Rock"), a 1766 land grant to Pedro Martin Serrano from Charles III of Spain.[1] The Rito del Yeso is a stream that meanders through the canyons and gorge, providing a drought resistant source of water for life to thrive.
