On Friday November 14th, I retired and on Saturday the 15th, John and I started on a new journey ~ tripping across the country in our Passat to visit family and friends, and to see sights and states we have never seen before.

Goodbye Winter!

The twenty four hours between leaving work and starting on our trip was quite eventful.
After a very heartwarming retirement party given to me by my wonderful team mates, I left work for the very last time earlier than expected. The extra time was a welcome gift so that my evening getting ready for the trip would not be so stressful. I walked out of the building with my very good friend, Jennifer Boyce and when we got to the car she noticed that one of our tires had a bubble! I am so thankful to Jen for noticing this and I immediate drove to Augusta, meeting John and had the tire replaced by Sears. So much for the extra time to get ready but so grateful to Jen for seeing what could have been a disaster.

To make it even more interesting, John and I stopped for a quick dinner and as John was leaving the restaurant, he notice an older gentleman wearing a Honeywell jacket. Within moments of speaking with this gentleman, it turned out that he knew John's dad when they both worked for Honeywell so many years ago. It is indeed a small world and in the end I could not be upset about the tire problem: The car was safe to drive and John had a wonderful interlude with an old Honeywell acquaintance who knew his Dad.
We spent the first evening in West Chester, Pa, and after a relaxing morning visiting with Barry and Jeanne Crysler, we drove on to Washington DC to attend the funeral of Colonel James Carberry and his wife, Mit Carberry, the parents of Johns very good friend, Jim and his sister, Carole DeWolf. We are so thankful that we were able to be a part of this very special celebration of life at Arlington National Cemetary. It was a very beautiful ceremony and I left the celebration with so many memories, but front and center is when Jim's son, Alex, saluted his grandfather. I felt honored to be asked to photograph such a special moment.
