January 15th: Drive through the Rockies to Albuquerque

The drive through the Rockies to Albuquerque, New Mexico

There are lots of photographs reliving this day. This beautiful drive took us through Montrose, Gunnison, Sapinero, Curecanti National Park and Lake Fork, Saguache and Alamose into New Mexico .....
It seems like at every turn of the road was another amazing vista!

We stopped for lunch in Saguache, a suprisingly sweet little town with lots of untapped character sounded by the Sangre de Cristo mountains and the San Juan mountains.  Lunch in the cafe was delicious and as we were leaving we met the owner of the old movie theater. She gave us a tour and told us of the renovations that were being made.  There is an old brick hotel that has been designatged a historical sight but sadly is abondaned ~ evidently the cost is to much to renovate because the potential for tourist is too low.  I liked the town ~ sort of reminded me of Grapevine!

We finally arrived at Diana Stauffer and Roger Durall's home in Albuquerque.
Roger prepared really good Green Chili and cornbread for\dinner and we loved it.
